About IIT-JEE MAINS EXAMINATION

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a competitive entrance examination for premier engineering institutes like Indian Institute of Technology, National Institute of Technology etc. National Testing Agency is public body which takes up the responsibility of conducting JEE. The examination is conducted in two phases. The first phase of JEE is the Mains examination. JEE Mains is a preliminary examination which needs to be cleared by students to appear for next phase of JEE (Advanced). However, in case some institutes like NITs, the scores of JEE Mains is considered directly for admission counselling. The second phase of JEE is the Advanced examination where the students clearing it will be eligible for IIT admission.

JEE Mains examination is conducted in many sessions for admission to next academic session. Usually, JEE Mains examination is conducted twice every year so that the students can have multiple opportunities to score well and clear the examination. Any student aspiring to pursue engineering or architecture can make use for these multiple opportunities instead of waiting for one more year to appear for the same next year. It is however not mandatory for the students to appear in all the sessions conducted during an academic year. It is left to the students’ discretion as to whether they want to appear for a single session or multiple sessions. If a student appears in multiple sessions, then best score out of all the attempts will be considered for preparation of Merit list/Rankings of JEE Mains examination by NTA.
